Dr. Joss Greene

Joss Greene is a sociologist whose research explores the experiences, collective action, and survival strategies of criminalized transgender people. This CRN is a welcome intellectual home, as many of the folks he conducts research with participate in the sex industry and/or face state violence based on their perceived participation. He has conducted research on the ways trans people navigate various carceral contexts, including prison, parole hearings, and reentry organizations. More recently, his work has come to explore questions of labor. He has published a paper on the nonprofitization of trans care work and he is writing a paper on the work trans women of color engage in to create lives and meaning behind bars (including trading sex and creating families). He is an active participant in movements for trans liberation and PIC abolition, and is currently a member of Survived & Punished NY.
